Steiff Baby Hot Water Bottle bear 1907 is handmade of brass coloured Schulte mohair and is five way jointed. This Teddy bear has an enchanting history: In 1906, the city of Berlin suffered a very harsh winter and was inundated with a blanket of snow – to counter the bitter cold a Teddy bear was adapted to hold a hot-water bottle within its body in order to bring a little warmth safely to the children as they slept. In March 1907 this ‘hot-water bottle bear’ was documented by Steiff as a registered design.

This cosy Teddy bear with the wide open, boot-button eyes is made of the softest light brown mohair and softly stuffed with wood shavings. In his tummy he has a lining made of felted wool.The metal hot water bottle insert fits snugly and securely into Teddy's body's via lace-up hooks on his belly.
